UCLA Placed in First Semifinal of NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships
Friday’s team semifinals determine the all-around champion and the qualifiers to the Super Six Team Finals and Individual Event Finals. The top three finishers from each semifinal session will advance to the Super Six Team Finals on Saturday, Apr. 18 at 6 pm CT. The top four individuals from each session in each event (plus ties) from the semifinal team and all-around competition will compete in the Individual Event Finals onSunday, Apr. 19 at 2 pm CT.Competing in the evening session at 7 pm CT will be Regional winners Oklahoma, Alabama and LSU and runners-up Oregon State, Auburn and Nebraska.UCLA will compete in the afternoon session of the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships team semifinals on Friday, Apr. 17. The competition will take place at 1:00 pm CT at the Fort Worth Convention Center Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. Also competing in the afternoon session are fellow Regional winners Florida and Georgia and runners-up Stanford, Michigan and Utah.
The Bruins will start the meet on floor exercise, followed by vault, a bye, then uneven bars and balance beam before ending on a bye. Georgia has the Olympic order and will start on vault. Stanford begins on a bye before bars. Michigan starts on uneven bars, Utah starts on beam, and Florida has a bye before floor. Rotating with UCLA will be individual all-around qualifier Mary Jane Horth from Illinois
In the second semifinal, LSU begins on vault, Oregon State has a bye before bars, Auburn begins on bars, Nebraska starts on beam, Oklahoma has the bye before floor, and Alabama begins on floor.
All teams and individuals will participate in podium training at the arena on Thursday, Apr. 16. The Bruins, along with Georgia, Michigan and Utah, will be in the first practice session, which runs from 10:30-12:15 pm.
UCLA will be competing in its 31st NCAA Gymnastics Championship and seeking its seventh NCAA title and first since 2010. The Bruins placed eighth overall at last year’s Championships, finishing fifth in the semifinals, just one-tenth out of third place. UCLA has qualified to the NCAA Super Six 18 times since the format was introduced in 1993.
